Built from 1679 onwards for Louis XIV to enable him to escape from time to time from Versailles and then abandoned after his death, the château and its series of pavilions were demolished in 1806.
Today the park is a venue of pleasure, a place for visits and strolls, for sports and games.
But its charm resides largely in its strange and mysterious character : the perspectives along its paths and avenues, the remains of the old buildings, the scattered statues, everything speaks of the absence of the château and its gardens and groves, its ornemental ponds and fountains...
The drinking through restored in 2006 and adorned with the famous Marly Horses, the Place des Coureurs and the masonry plinth of the former château all recall the estate's past splendour.
