As one would expect, this museum devoted to the sport of kings is in Maisons-Laffitte, the historic centre of the racing world, not far from the racecourse. By means of displays of models, works of art, archive material, cups and other period items, the museum recounts the story of racing in France from its early beginnings. After this weekend spent studying the world of horses near Paris, you will know that the first races in France were in 1830 on the nearby fields bordering the Seine, and will understand all about the famous red jockey’s cap and silks.
